Carolina Migrant Network (CMN) is a 501(c)(3). CMN’s mission is to build and sustain legal services for people targeted by ICE and DHS. We provide compassionate and competent pro-bono legal representation. We organize with communities to disrupt the deportation pipeline through leadership development and issue based campaigns. We envision a world of empowered, self-determined, organized communities free from the fear of family separation.

Operations Associate


Position Type: Part time, 20 hours per week  

Reports to: Co-Director/ Strategist

Salary: $30 hourly 

Summary of Position: CMN is seeking to contract an Operations Associate to support CMN in establishing financial and human resources policies for its staff. 

JOB DUTIES

Human Resources | Operations:

  • Coordinate the hiring process including job postings, screening of resumes, organizing candidate interviews, and new hire on-boarding.
  • Oversee office management; serve as liaison to building maintenance staff; IT and phone support. 
  • Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance thereof for nonprofit compliance purposes
  • Act as a key participant to promote an office culture that supports a positive team environment.  Collegial, reflective, and respectful.
  • Collaborate with co-Executive Directors to manage the annual employee benefits renewal process and performance review process.
  • Support with implementing new software and protocols to organization.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders across the organization to map processes & relationships and to support the design of effective operational workflows

Financial Management  

  • Administration of all financial plans and general financial oversight and monitoring. 
  • Oversee accounting: liaison to  bookkeeper; ensure adherence to accounting policies and practices; and coordinate and support preparation of annual audit with accounting firm. 
  • Supervise preparation of monthly financial reports and create additional reports as needed for grants, projects and Board meetings. 
  • Prepare annual budget in coordination with Co-EDs and staff. 
  • Pull data from books for year-to-date vs projected comparison, and re-project year end numbers in collaboration with Co-EDs monthly,  in collaboration with accountant and bookkeeper.
  • Gather content for Annual Report; work with other staff on creation. 

 

Skills Required

  • Two or more years previous on-the-job experience at an operations/office management level.
  • Advanced proficiency with Google Drive and data analysis required. Data analysis and IT management, a plus.  
  • Able to think quickly and effectively manage day-to-day projects and tasks; prioritize assignments. A successful track record in setting priorities with organization and problem solving skills that enable sound decision-making.
  • A self-starter able to operate both independently and collaboratively, balancing independent judgment and decision making with seeking clarification.
  • Embodies personal qualities of integrity and credibility. 
  • Commitment to the organizational mission and values of the Carolina Migrant Network. 

Work location:

  • Our office is physically located in Charlotte, NC. We have a preference for candidates that are based in the Charlotte area, but are open to considering remote/hybrid candidates that seem like a good fit.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working towards social change such as transformative and restorative justice, abolitionist movements, or other experience demonstrating a commitment to challenging the state. 
  • Willingness to practice and learn about trauma informed care, holistic practices, and community driven work.
