Civic Engagement Canvasser
Position Type: Seasonal Temporary Part Time Canvasser, 10- 20 hour work week until November 2024
Reports to: Organizing Manager
Salary: $20.00 an hour
Background: Carolina Migrant Network (CMN) is a 501(c)(3). CMN’s mission is to build and sustain legal services for people targeted by ICE and DHS. We provide compassionate and competent pro-bono legal representation. We organize with communities to disrupt the deportation pipeline through leadership development and issue based campaigns. We envision a world of empowered, self-determined, organized communities free from the fear of family separation.
Summary of Position: CMN is hiring part-time, seasonal canvasser who will focus on planning and execution of our organizational civic engagement plan and support with our outreach programs, including the launch of our Chime y Cafecito series. We will be hosting non-partisan civic engagement efforts in the greater Charlotte area that will include door-to-door canvassing, voter registration, advocacy related to specific legislation, and culturally relevant political education. seasona;
Primary Responsibilities:
- Canvasses Latino communities for voter registration, education, and mobilization efforts. Identifies likely voters for the upcoming elections.
- Engage community members and voters around voter registration, voter education, Vote by Mail, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV).
- Increases Latino voter turnout through Get Out The Vote tactics.
- Follow all required reporting procedures and utilize appropriate voter databases.
- Provide weekly reporting to supervisor
- Attend all training as directed by their supervisor.
- Adheres to all state laws and regulations regarding voter registration and voter engagement efforts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- No minimum educational requirements
- English and Spanish fluency required
- Must possess a desire to assist individuals and groups targeted by the carceral state
- Independent and self-directed; requiring little management
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to listen and learn from diverse perspectives
- Ability to operate in fast-paced environment and prioritize work to consistently meet deadlines
- Competence with Google Suites, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom and other digital tools
- Some weekend (Saturday/Sunday) event participation is required
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Continually required to stand and walk.
- Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Continually required to talk or hear.
- Occasionally utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
- Frequently required to lift/push/carry items less than 25 pounds.
- Continually exposed to outside weather conditions.
Work location:
- All the programs organized by this position will occur in Charlotte, NC. A valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle, preferred but not required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working towards social change such as transformative and restorative justice, abolitionist movements, or other experience demonstrating a commitment to challenging the state
- Willingness to practice and learn about trauma informed care, holistic practices, and community driven work
